One question before i press that scary one-way "Use iCloud photo library" checkbox: what happens with photo streams that are shared across the family (including parents & grandparents on older versions of iOS...)?

Does everyone need to be on 8.3 in order to be able to access to shared photo albums like they could previously get access to shared photo streams? Or does the shared photo stream continue to co-exist seperately from the photo albums? Thanks for any insights.

This is something I was wondering, too!

Shared Albums still work the same.
When you have Photo's, click View -> Show Sidebar.
In the sidedar there is a section called Shared where the photo albums are.

However...
You cannot create a iCloud Shared Photo Album in OS X, only on iOS
