The apple site has a chart comparing 4 different graphics cards available for the Powermac g5. but they only offer 3 different cards. I'm wondering if the the other card is just there to show how good the quadro is, but seeing as how expensive that card is i was wondering why they don't offer the 7800 GT as an option

Apple was expecting it, but it was never delivered.
Although Apple may not sell it, Nvidia(on their website) has the Mac OS supported under the new 7800GTX(about 25% faster than the 7800) making it faster than the Quadro.
If that doesn't happen how good would the Quadro be at helping games like X-Plane?
Or what online sites would probably be the first to have the GTX as full retail of $750 sounds a lot better than the $1,850 of the Quadro.

Apple allways seems to have problems getting new top dog Nvidia products, they are allways many months behind the PC World. It will be a nice day when a new Video card comes out that works with both PCs and Macs. No more Apple propreitary games
ATI has a new 9600 that does and its just a matter of time before they all do. Ever wonder why Apple solders on so many Gpu's PC gamer gives the 7800 gtx a editors rating and a 95% . its overkill if you are on a LCD in my view, it simply draws faster then monitors refresh. The real pro guys doing all that manipulation may need that top card but for most that 6600s should do well. Its rated a very solid series and value on the PC side of things. Selling price for a 7800gtx is about $600 from pc gamer mag i wonder what apple will get for it ?

But do these cards work with the PowerMacs? if the hardware is supported by OS X, then maybe, but Wouldn't there also be some variation depending on who built the card? Maybe if you stick with a stock/reference design it'd be okay. Interesting, though...
