Has anyone heard a reason why Apple changed the time to 5AM Pacific after about a decade of Midnight preorders? Would rather just jump up quick at 3AM, preorder, and go back to sleep than have it interfere with work.

Guessing to help more than on time frame...for us in the uk can’t really complain at 1pm pre order Time.

Actually I respectfully disagree. Having the preorder window open at such an antisocial time in the UK in previous years meant that people like me who were willing to stay up and jump on the site as soon as it opened meant that I was ever in competition with similar determined UK techno-geeks who were also willing to stay up to do that. Even then when it was a popular upgrade year it was often a struggle with the Apple UK site going slow, having to keep retrying after timeouts, etc. With this 1pm UK time I fear that the competition might be more intense since way more people can give it a go in their lunch break or whatever. Admittedly better for the many so maybe I shouldn’t complain but purely from self interest I preferred the previous timing.

8.01am was antisocial?

Yup, you're right. I'm an idiot. For some reason I had it stuck in my mind that it was always the early hours of the morning when I was fighting with web site timeouts etc but my memory was playing tricks. Then again, I'm not an early morning person so 8:00am does feel pretty antisocial for me but clearly my previous post was nonsense. Sorry about that!

So this year 5am Pacific means 1pm UK time. I'll be poised over my keyboard tomorrow lunchtime. I want some of that extra battery life.
