Slightly slimmer, meh, I have huge hands, so I love how the original one is, as I'm able to wrap my hands around it comfortably. (On another note, I'll probably end up buying an old model DS for the same reason, Lite is way too thin)
The only benefit I see is the speakers on the top instead of on the bottom, but thats it.

Yes, you can. As long as you have the box, pack it up and take it to any store that sells the new PSP. Tell them you want to swap for the new one and they'll hand it over.
You can also swap 2 Gamecubes for a Wii.
u need to put it in the box?????? i threw that away, but one thing, what do u have to return, the psp and the charger? im okay with that, but what if you lost the box!!!
can u give them them the psp, charger, and pay a little fee, then get the psp?

Of course you can't get a free upgrade from an old model to a new one. That would be similar to taking in your ps2 and asking for a free ps3 instead of it.

What do you expect them to do? Let you trade it in for free then they would have to sell it for less because no one would pay full price for an older model PSP when a newer one is there? Do you think they are willing to take that loss just to be nice? It's going to be you, the end user who has to take the loss and and either trade in your PSP for less so they can sell it for a profit or find someone to sell it to so you can pay for a new one.
I heard they'll accept it without the box if you promise to hand over your first born child to them!

You can trade your PSP + cash for a new one. They will not under any circumstances just give you a new one for free.

ok, so i bought my psp at toys r us, i threw away the box, and the reciept, so i want to get a new psp slim from gamestop or best buy, what do i have to give them, i know i have to give the psp and charger, but how much money do i have to pay?

very few BBs do trade in. Gamestop will give you $60 for your PSP, so you'll have to come up with the extra $100 and something (depending on what bundle you want).
