main issue is:
he is frightened with other people. Basic to his breed but early socialization over coms this. Seems he has had little of this. This dog is 2years old and growled at everyone at the local ACE hardware.
The not a high traffic area, the local ACE hardware staff understnad and feed him treets which help.
how long to expect the new arrival to be more accepting??
Reference:
previous house pet; an Irish Setter ,long lived long till 15+ years old. Very very Sad but expected. Over decade(s) of frienship. we decided to down size for the new next house pet situation but fournd adoption options for a smaller dog limited. I wanted to get a larger dog to help navagate my homeDepot shopping trips but family peer preasure drove the search other wise.
via petharbor.com we found a candadate at a suburban shelter; a BassetHound. the animial has worked out better than expected:
its an old german dog breed so lots of expectations
-he does NOT bark for some strange reason, my last irish setter didnt either, only after he was 10 years old. nice if they do tho; let you know when they are hungry, bathrrom and or emotional.
-he is stobborn, difficult to train, with direct dog eye contact the dog says NO WAY
-most house pets like to go for a walk, this one dosnt
-the animal is extra long, his legs are 3, unexpected, he weighs 30 bls and is not over wiehgt. So new areas of the huse have been explored
-the previous Irigh Setter; seemed humans were in another dimension. I would feel there was a wall between me & him. the new house pet bassetHound is not that way. He has significant eye contact.
How long for him to get over the fear of short retail trips around town??
