1st off thanks for all of the insight over my last couple of questions :)

I've narrowed down my selection to one of the following two systems:

PowerBook G4 12 1GHz al w/superdrive and airportcard and 80GB drive

or

PowerBook G4 15 1GHz Ti w/superdrive

my main useage is as follows:

wordproc, powerpoint/keynote, video creation for work related projects along with home movies

this would be my primary system (I have a couple of of window boxes and my wife has a wintel laptop)

thank you again in advance,

John

thats what my problem is --

get the "better" older system or the "better" newer system

how "bad" is the old Ti1Ghz compared to the newer al1GHz-12"?

thanks again

i think a really importnat question to ask yourself is how much will you be porting it around. if the answer is none to not much i would get teh 15 incher.

i had to ask myself the same question and i said a lot. so i got the 12 inch.

Old 15 inch = annoying fan coming on.
New 12 inch = no fan noise.

Anyone now how the newer 15 is?
Does the fan still come on?

It will be traveling with me to work and home each day - along with some family trips...

was the last round of Ti units built any better then the 1st 400MHz units

i sold my 15" 1GHz Ti and got the new 12" for a couple of reasons.

The first being that i carry my powerbook everywhere i go and the 12" is much better suited for that.

The second being that although i would love to have the new 15" for gaming, my PC is still faster than the new 15" so i'd probably still use the PC for games most of the time.

3rd would be that the new AlBooks are much more sturdy in their construction if you ask me which helps with me carrying it around everywhere.

4th, the new PowerBooks aren't painted so no worries about chipping.

5th, did i mention that the new ones just look sweet?

comparing my 1GHz Ti to my friends 1st gen 400MHz Ti yes, the lastest gen were built better.

After nearly two weeks I have yet to hear the fan come on with my 15"

I don't recall my 400MHz Ti ever being loud, and the iBook 500 was stone cold quite :)

now the Toshiba P4 notebook I'm useing as I type this turns on about every 2 minutes and sounds like a mini-hair dryer :)

Thats good to hear.
My G/F's iBook looks like its been through a war or something, so maybe in a while we'll get a better one, but I didn't want to give up the silent operation, which is the most important to us.

Thanks

i'd get the new 12" with less options and invest in an ext. monitor to be used at home...

does the 1ghz PB 12 have the same screen and res as the 500MHz iBook?

on that note can you easily edit movies and use Word for long duration?
