I upgraded to the new remote but decided to keep my ATV4K 2017. I have a Vizio soundbar connected to my Samsung TV. I am controlling the volume using IR as my sound bar does not have HDMI CEC. The volume up and down buttons and mute button sometimes do not respond, even when pointing it directly at my tv. Sometimes I’ll click several times before it registers. Of note, the volume buttons on my old Apple TV remote are much more responsive. Sometimes the touchpad button and menu button takes a couple of clicks to respond too. Is anyone else having a silmilar experience. Should I just swap the remote?

the new remote has a habit of dropping the connection to the aTV, so thought that might be related, but I just did a test, set mine to control the TV via IR, and then unplugged the aTV. The remote continued to control the TV volume.

I'm not sure what happens when it does drop the connection, it could the remote crashing, which could affect the IR sender also, unlike my test.

for me, I'll be watching something, and the remote will stop working, have to hit a few buttons before it starts to work, and I'll get a "remote connected" popup on screen. this has been happening 2-3 times a week, and have seen others with the same probelm.

hopefully apple fixes this in a software update soon.

I was also having the frequent disconnection issues. I didn’t want to chance it, so I exchanged it. The new remote feels more responsive for sure. But still not as responsive as the old remote. the new remote has not dropped connection yet. Fingers crossed.
