Hi there,
Loving my new MBP, but I’m having connectivity problems—with the Mail app and my outgoing mail server.
One out of two times when I send an email, Mail can't seem to connect to the outgoing mail server, so the message ends up in my Outbox.

I wouldn't post about this here on this hardware site, but after beating the bushes elsewhere, I'm starting to wonder if this might somehow be a hardware thing, specific to the new rMBP, or maybe a hardware/software thing, specific to the new rMBP and Mavericks.
(my daughter has a two-year-old MacBook Pro, and like me is running Mavericks 10.9.1... and doesn't have this problem).

I first blamed Bell (my internet service provider). Bell was responsive—a technician replaced my modem, and tightened connections and fixed some wiring problems outside the house that he said might have caused the problem. He came to my place twice. I then blamed the Bell server, asking if it was perhaps a coal-fired model (fabricated out of an old threshing machine) from the 1860s, and was told it wasn’t.
The Bell guy said, without a doubt, that the problem is something he’s seen before—he said that Mac Mail is “finicky”, in Mavericks in particular. He never sees these connectivity problems with Windows machines.

So I started some detective work re the Mac OS side of things. I restarted my MacBook Pro in Safe Mode… and got the same problems in Mail. So it's not any of my (many) 3rd-pasrty apps.
I also created a new user, thinking that might work. It didn't.

I may be leaving out something obvious... which is part of the reason for my post. I talked with someone at AppleCare two days ago, who said he'd get back to me, but so far I haven't heard back. He was pretty dismissive of the idea that it could be anything connected to Mavericks, by the way.

Is there something else I could be looking at?
Thanks for any advice,
malch
