I noticed this on my old cMBP. If I turn the speakers all the way up and play the "Funk" system alert, the speakers kind of crackle a bit. Is this normal? The Funk distorted on the two highest sound volume increments on the keyboard controls. The 3rd highest sounds perfect.

I have a rev2 LG panel and everything on this unit is perfect. Zero image retention, its just great. But I'm probably being a little picky with the audio. It sure does sound richer and more vibrant than my old machine.

Go into an apple store or reseller and compare the sound 1 to 1. If there is no crackle on the shop model then its a fault in the speaker, if not then its the limit of the speaker design.

I can confirm this also happens with my rMBP. It seems to be normal.

BTW I can see why you're concerned. Hope you never have the displeasure of listening to a Nexus 7. It has a terribly weak speaker that was easily blown out if you didn't break it in for the first week. System sounds would crackle at 1/2 volume.
