I am preparing to set up my new 2014 Macbook Pro Retina 13", baseline model, i5, 8GB memory, 128 SSD.
I am familiar with time machine as I use it to back up my iMac. I'm not sure how Time Machine will work once bootcamp partitions the SSD. I want to get a game plan in order.
My guess is that Time Machine doesn't back up the whole drive, but just the portion that has OSX. But does time machine care when it reverts back to a back up whether the drive partitioning matches that of the original backup?
I would like to do a Time Machine back up that of the brand spankin' new OS X (after running updates) prior to running bootcamp that I can revert back to in the future if I ever feel the need. If I feel like I want to do a full system restore later to that first Time Machine back up (pre-bootcamp partitioning), will it allow me to do so on the smaller post-bootcamp OS X partition, assuming there is space available for the data?
If it doesn't allow that, and the size of the partition at the time of the Time Machine back up has to match the size at the time of the full restore, then I'll just do another back up right after bootcamp does it's thing.
Just want to be totally sure that Time Machine doesn't care about the size of the drive it restores to (i.e., smaller, but still room).
Anything else I should keep in mind about the way Time Machine will store its backups on my new external hard drive I bought for the purpose of backing up the new MBPr, given I may change the partitioning from time to time?
Thanks,
zeppo
