New rMBP with an older Displayport Cinema Display?

I've been using a late 2008 MacBook with mini DisplayPort connected to my ~2009 Cinema Display.

Will I be able to use the same display with a new rMBP with Thunderbolt 2? I think so, but a few searches have led me to believe that this might not be the case.

As I understand it, Thunderbolt carries the DisplayPort signal so it should work with a DisplayPort display, correct?

The TB2 ports will work just like the old ones and can be used as normal mini-display ports, so your Cinema Display will still work.
