Replaced an old dual monitor set up with a new 2020 iMac and new second monitor. New second monitor is a Samsung like my very old DVI 19" very nice one (I use portrait mode on second monitor). The new one is a Samsung "Business" S24851 24" USB C monitor which is lovely but my menu bar is missing. I suspect Mission Control

I don't see anywhere that Samsung display has internal speakers, only a headphone connector (?). Am I wrong about that?
So, if that is correct, you would need to connect headphones (or an external speaker) to that jack before any audio would be heard.
And, if that doesn't work, you would probably only get audio from a Mac through HDMI.

No, you are right. I now understand that a road warrior is supposed to plug their laptop into the USB C cable and the Desktop computer speakers can be in the "headphone" sound out port of the monitor; a sort of docking station.

Does the menu bar appear on the iMac's display?

Unless they've changed things, you only get "a menu bar" on ONE of the displays.
I believe you control how that works in the "displays" preference pane.

Although... I'm wondering if the iMac will always "retain" the menu bar on the built-in display...

Turns out Mission Control in System Preferences in charge. If the two screens are truly contiguous desktop the menubar stays on the booted screen (yes yes I know) but if you turn on SPACES the screens become connected but with defines "Space" that allows both monitors to have a menubar.
