New sim is displaying "No service"??

Hi guys,

Just moved to Paris and went to Orange for a new sim, have inserted it, but it just displays "no service". I bought the phone from Apple directly, so it presumably shouldn't be locked...

Have turned the phone on and off and reset the network settings, but that hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

It's an iPhone 4.

If you just got a blank SIM, it has to be programmed by the wireless carrier to let you use the cellular service. Also, is the iPhone 4 you purchased GSM or CDMA? Orange is a GSM carrier from my limited looking into this matter. If you got a CDMA phone, it will not work with GSM carriers, even if unlocked.
