I have an iphone4 jailbroken with Greenpois0n. I used the iphonebrowser to overwrite the old text alerts in /system/library/audio/UIsounds/... and replaced them with new sounds.

I made the alerts through itunes with the "Create AAC version" option and changed the file extension to .caf

I renamed the files as sms-received2.caf, rebooted, but now my phone won't even play them. Did I do something wrong?

How big are the files? I think for SMS the length limitation Apply. I would recommend using ToneFX to automate this process.

1 to 3 seconds long. The biggest one is 52KB. What's the largest a text alert can be?

For SMS ringtones, you have to create AIFF version. AAC is for normal call ringtones.
Go to itunes>preference>import setting>AIFF and try again

So, I create an AIFF version and then rename it to .caf? I didn't think that made a difference. Thanks for clearing that up.

Awesome!!

Alright! That worked. :p Now then, master guru's of the iphone's innards, what requirements does a picture need in order to use it as a slider image?

You don't need another thread, there are several thread already about it, I don't remember the dimensions from the top of my head, but a quick search will give you the answer.

There aren't any specific file extensions or source file types?
