New to airport express

I just got airport express and I'm trying to connect it wirelessly to my imac. I managed to get it connected and set up with airport utility, but the light keeps blinking amber. Airport utility says that the wireless device does not have a valid IP address. What does this mean. Express is connected to a dsl modem and that's it.

Have you configure your Express to connect to your ISP using PPPoE? That's how your DSL modem connects to the internet.
