Hi I’ve just bought the iPhone 17 pro max

(had the s25 ultra,red magic 11 pro,honor magic 8 pi)

Returned them as wasn’t keen so gone for the iPhone 17 pro max just a question is there away to system wide block ads like on android?

And is it possible to have dark mode throughout safari as gsmarena etc is still in light mode

And I don’t suppose there is a way to block adds in YouTube app I’m assuming it cannot be done as I know you can in safari but it doesn’t play 4k hdr on safari

Thank you

When you refer to ad's, are you mean those in the browser? Some people like to use AdGuard. If it is just Safari, go into Settings/Apps/Safari -> General and play around with the various settings.

I’ve been using both Androids and iPhones for years. Each have their pros and cons.

With iPhone you lose much of the freedom to adjust and customize the device to your preferences. It’s a walled garden, highly restricted and tightly controlled by Apple.

The one browser that blocks adds best is Brave browser, free in the App Store.

Hi thanks for the reply I’m after system wide ad block like in android you can set a dns and it blocks both browsers and apps from the adds

I quite like the iOS and iPhone makes a change from android (which I’ve been with for Arun’s 15 years lol )

An dark mode in say Samsung browser all the web pages are in dark mode when enabled but in safari there not

You can use something like NextDNS, AdGuard DNS, or Control D and install their DNS configuration profile or use their app. They all have a free tier, but depending on your internet usage, you may want to subscribe. What DNS service were you using on your Android?

Blocking ads is tougher in the YouTube app because the ads are served by the youtube.com domain. I use Control D's Full Control plan and redirect my YouTube requests through Albania. (Albania is not a monetized country, so there are no ads.) This is done via the same config profile mentioned above, but also requires a subscription to do the redirect.

This depends on if the site has native dark mode support. GSMArena's site doesn’t have a dark mode option, so you're seeing it as they intended. Your Samsung browser must have been converting it to dark mode, or maybe you were using a browser extension. You can find a browser extension for Safari in the App Store that will do something similar.

I pay for YouTube Premium but I've heard good things about Youplay on App Store. Maybe worth a try.
