Hi everyone :)

So I have a used 4S (iOS 7) from a friend (who's upgraded to a 6).
It's 'de-registered' with his Apple account. It was originally bought from an Apple Store on a Vodaphone contract.

Can I buy a sim from another network - say O2, giffgaff, 3, etc - and have the phone work ok? I'm reading that it may by 'locked'?

Currently the phone is in it's 'Hello....' state ready to be registered - it won't let me register it without having a sim.

Any advice is welcomed :)

Unless you know for sure if the phone is locked or not, no one can help answer. Get it unlocked and go from there. You dId mention Vodafone so my guess is that it might be unlocked ONLY because it is how international markets tend to operate. Again, just guessing.

Find out its unlock status and go from there. Or use a friends sim to test it on their network.
