New to mac: iPhone sync problem

I just got my wife a new MacBook and she just upgraded her iPhone to 4g today. The problem is when she plugs phone into laptop only her photos load to the computer. Her iTunes is not recognized. It's like the only part of her iPhone that is recognized is photos. We can open iTunes store, but her library won't show up unless my pc is open to her iTunes, then the shared function works. There still seems to be no recognition of her phone. HELP!
