So I've finally bitten the bullet and got myself a MacBook Pro 13inch . This is my guest MacOS device after years of windows tomfoolery .

My question is I'm used to storing all of my photos in my pictures file on windows. What are the benefits of importing these and any future photos to the photos app, or shall I continue saving them as files?

Many thanks in advance!

I don't import my photos into Photos, or into any other "photo app".

Instead, I keep them in my own "self-created" library of folders and files (I arrange them by date).

Then, I "reference" them with whatever photo app I'm using.
Example:
In Photos, I UNCHECK:
Preferences/Importing -- copy items to the Photos library

This way, my "masters" stay in MY OWN photo "library".

That's how I do it, and I realize that "my way" is different from what most other folks do (which is let Photos "run it all" for them).

Note:
There is a separate sub forum here called "Digital Photography".
Your questions might be better answered there.
