Ok, so i got a new macbook pro yesterday, very exciting. I'm a native Linux user who decided that a mac was the way forward.

I wanted to do an immediate Timemachine backup of the entire system before using anything, so i plugged in my WD HDD. It had 2 partitions, an EXT3 partition which had my music and photos for linux, and a NTFS partition for windows files.

It came up as 15GB, which is the size of the windows partition and asked me to format. I did, but the whole drive was formatted, meaning i lost my linux EXT3 partition too.

I backed up the system as a 10GB file using timemachine.

My questions are as follows:

1) Can i move the time machine files to my Netgear Stora, and back up to here?
2) As above, can my Netgear Stora be used for Timemachine backups?
3) Anyone know if i can recover my photos only from the hard disk which was formatted. I have a linux machine i could use for the recovery.

Many many thanks for your help!
