Well let me just say i am new to the Apple products, well besides the ipad 2. anyway i just got a macbok pro model a1286 and i downloaded a movie and its an avi format butn it doesnt play it. wha do i need to do to get it to play my movies.? this laptop seems really awesome so far.

Google is a good place to start before you start asking every single questions that already been asked millions of times already.
Use VLC, it's exactly the same as WMP being unable to play most "downloaded" movies. You can also try Perian, however I've found VLC to be a better and more intuitive player overall than QT.
