Hello,

Bit of a (good) problem here!
I won a competition and the prize is an Apple watch!
I just gotta pre-order one, and I'll be reimbursed for the amount.

The amount covers the cost of a Sports watch.

Now, I'm thinking, the difference in cost between the sport and the stainless steel is $260. Is it worth it?

Anyone going one way or the other? Why?

The differences I see are the Sapphire screen (like, is that even good...?) and the ceramic back, which I find interesting...

Also, from what I see, you can buy bands for the stainless steel version - vs. just the sports band for the sports version...

decisions! ha

I'm bummed they don't offer the silver apple watch with the black band - would've been my first choice. The white looks too off-putting in my opinion... I'm a guy that works in an office..

You can buy bands for the sport version as well. Some of the bands have a stainless steel connector that may not look great with the sport. Other bands (like the leather loop) don't have any stainless steel and should look fine with either one. Any band will fit any watch though.

The two main differences are what you highlighted in your post - sapphire screen vs glass, and ceramic back vs some sort of plastic.

Also, the sport is aluminum and lighter than the stainless steel.

I think that you can use both Sport bands and all other bands if you have the Sport.

Also, I will be going with the Sport just because I don't want to spend $599 on a first-gen watch. I personally don't feel the advantages of the SS outweigh the Aluminum Sport.

The difference in price is $200 and yes I think it is worth it. I will buying the SS model because I will be wearing it everyday and like the idea of a Sapphire Crystal screen. Also the SS looks great with all the different band options.

38mm Sport $349
38mm SS $549
42mm Sport $399
42mm SS $599

Hmm I think I'll pre order the space grey sport and a black band and later on if I see the Stainless version and fall in love with it - I'll change my order

I just can't justify $290(after tax) to buy something that does exactly the same thing as something I'm already getting for free haha

Thanks for the help

Edit. Here in Canada the 42mm sport is $519 and $779 for the stainless steel 42mm

Curious. Where are you seeing that the difference in price is $260?

Edit: Canada, eh?;)

Just to rub it in a little... No sales tax here in Oregon :D My SS with Leather Loop will be $699 and not a penny more!

I think it really depends on how you want to use the watch. When it comes down to it the functionality is the same. I wouldn't spend 260 more just for sapphire glass but if you have you heart set on a different band/look then it may be worth it. The sapphire is definitely a plus but I wouldn't get it just for that reason.

interesting.

I'll be using it as a daily watch. Will probably use it at the gym/when working out too.

I'm 25. Not many people my age wear watches. So I kind of want something as non-descript as possible. I have an heirloom Rolex and I always feel weird wearing it around my friends - like I'm showing off or something. So I never wear it lol.

I'm settled on the Space Grey Sports. Thanks all!
