I'm new to this and would like to take my camcorder Mini DV tapes and make them into a DVD. I want to get the best quality audio/video from this. Only need to do some basic editing and menus. Can someone give me the steps they would take to do this and what software they would use to do it.

I have a Mac Pro 8 core with iMovie 08

Is there a site that would be informative for someone with a Mac that doesn't know anything about doing this and explains what's involved in this process.

Just import the video into iMovie, make your edits, and send to iDVD for the menus and burning.

Is iMovie 08 suitable for this? Looking through the postings, it appears that iMovie 06 was preferred or would iMovie 09 be better?

Depends on the edits ... iMovie '08 is good for the basics. Many people complained because it became more basic than '06 was.
