System spec:
MacBook Pro (unibody)
2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo / 4Gb RAM / 250Gb Hard drive/ SMC version 1.49f2 / Boot ROM Version: MBP53.00AC.B03 / Identifier: MacBookPro5,4
/ Mac OS X 10.5.7
I was having terrible freezing problems that I put down to either Firefox or Safari... basically it happened at least 3 or 4 times per hour, the spinning wheel would appear for no apparent reason and the system would hang for 30 seconds or so (I could move mouse but often not click or type).
I've read multiple threads about issues with having 4Gb RAM installed and also other issues with freezing on earlier versions of 10.5.x and 10.4.x, resolved by using CoolBook to try and regulate the CPU speed or removing some extension / application.
I'm pleased to say that this issue is now resolved - the culprit was the wireless networking. As soon as I disable wireless networking and plugged in an ethernet cable, the system doesn't hang *at all* and is generally far more responsive. This happens in all locations and doesn't seem to be an issue with a particular wireless access point.
I have no idea if this is a hardware or software issue, but it is a major one. I have read other people having this problem and this was one of the suggestions.
Posting here in the hope of helping others out or raising awareness to Apple somehow!
