Apple sure to over complecate things!
I have done an icloud set up, contacts are in new phone, and messages.
Here are some of the many issues I face.

MAC HIGH SIERRA 10.13.6
I can't seem to transfer all my apps in one go. Or even at all.
Contacts names are not showing in messages.
New phone won't connect to itunes. 12.7.4.80

Things work better when your software is up to date. What iOS version is the 13 running? Before connecting an iDevice to a Mac, there usually needs to be an update that’s installed when you first connect it. High Sierra might be too old to support an iDevice running more recent versions of iOS.

If you transferred your data using an iCloud backup, then all of your apps will download in the background eventually.

The most recent version of iTunes available on High Sierra supports all the latest devices and software versions...

You need to update the version of iTunes on your computer, the version your using isn't the latest (12.8.3) https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1977?locale=en_US

Really? Last time I moved phones it was super smooth experience.
Same here, only 99% of my stuff are non-Apple accounts that just populate when added. I mainly only get Apple involved for stuff like apps, wallpaper, system settings, passwords, etc.

Going from a 6s+ to an Android Pixel in 2020 and then back to an iPhone 11 PM in 2021 was also very smooth. Of course the majority of my account stuff is Google so I assume that was a big part of it.

Thanks for advice all, I will DL new ituns now.. Hopedfully then I can back up and then restore on new iphone 13 pro.
Seems silly downloading all the apps one by one, this is 2023!!

Apple is trying to save you space in your backup. An iCloud backup that includes apps simply means that it retains a list of installed apps and app data, not the app itself. Apple assumes that everyone has access to WiFi now and so a restore will simply redownload all the apps on the installed list and move the backed up app data in to the appropriate place.

This changed to what it is now sometime around iOS 7 I believe.

Looks like it's all sorted... Who was I to doubt Apple 🤪
