Hi all
I've a MacBook Air, and all of my audio is on a separate hard drive.
The limited amount of music on my MacBook syncs with my wife's iPad.
How do I set up my MacBook iTunes to point to the library on my backup HD without compromising my wife's iPad?
Thanks
Aynsley

Do you have a MacBook and a MacBook Air?

I'm just wanting to make sure I'm reading this right before I answer.

Sorry to confuse! - No to the MacBook, just MacBook Air and iPad - and thanks, too for the link, I'll take a look now.

...hmmmm, this link doesn't seem to work, whether I click on it, or copy it, I get this link..http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589?viewlocale=null&locale=null

and an error message about too many redirects...

You can have your library on multiple drives without issue.

If you have some files on the MacBook Air's internal drive and some on an external then iTunes will keep track of them.

If you take the Air with you and leave the external at home you can still use iTunes to play whatever music is on the internal drive.

Ah - forgive my inexperience here, but..

The external hard drive is quite large, and I didn't want to import its contents to my MacBook Air, just to have the "index of titles" visible to me in order to play them when it is plugged in. Does this make any sense?
Using the suggested (link) method seems just to create a new folder on the attached separate drive, and copy my macBook Air's main library into it.

Just uncheck this option and they will remain on the external.
