In the first drone update since Apple officially named its Spaceship campus "Apple Park," Matthew Roberts has shared an ongoing look at the progress of the campus as it grows ever closer to the official employee move-in date in April. The last collection of video updates came at the end of January and saw walkways, lamps, and parking lots beginning to appear on the site.

Now, the R&D center is "as polished as ever," according to Roberts' newest aerial update video. On the vehicle garages, solar panel installation is finally at 100 percent completion, while the main circular building has received more solar panels but progress on that front has yet to be completed.

As is usual for these updates, landscaping efforts are a major part of the continued construction on the site. Now, more trees have appeared above the underground tunnel and workers are prepping the area to finish the meadows surrounding the campus. The walkways part of last month's update can be seen cutting through the campus as well -- in total there will be 2 miles of walkways at Apple Park.

Other updates include "major changes" to the fitness center and the ongoing progress to the large courtyard inside of the main building. In the center, more drought resistant trees have been planted and more landscape features have appeared. More than 12,000 employees will work at Apple Park, including company CEO Tim Cook.

In its official announcement last week, Apple mentioned that the theater at Apple Park will be named the "Steve Jobs Theater" after the late CEO, who would have turned 62 last Friday. The theater is one of the buildings that won't be open when the campus begins moving employees in this April, and is expected to officially be ready later this year.

I look forward to each update, it's been cool watching it all come together. Can't wait until it's done!

Wow! Everything is looking quite nice. The garage seems to be missing a small piece of solar panels on the very end, tho.

I bet the worker folks are even excited to be using this monstrosity they've constructed, parking in the garages, traversing the underground tunnels, using the office's "facilities". :) I wonder if they get to use the lunchroom and eating areas during their break...? Only if they promise to wear their suits and gloves, tho!

The scale is mind boggling.

Forgive the dumb question but is the only way to get to different parts of the building is to walk? I mean if you park in the garage, and your office is at the farthest end of the spaceship do you walk there or are there people mover type technology?

Excited to see it in its fully completed form. Apple Park, new iPads, new iPhone, new Watch? And hopefully other goodies to come this year.

Can't believe there are people that say "this is just an office building..."
It is just an office building. The Mona Lisa is just a painting. The SR-71 Blackbird is just an airplane. My 69 Mustang is just a car (not really, but for the purposes of my argument I will blaspheme - forgive me Erma). The emotional response elicited from you regarding those things is what's important... to you. Not everyone feels the same way. To me, The Orchard - 'cuz much better name than Apple Park - is a nice looking office building. To you it might mean more. To me my Mustang is a work of art. Partially because she's beautiful, mostly because I rebuilt her with these two hands (you can't see them, but trust me, I have them). To you and everyone else it better f'n be the same thing.:D

They should erect a 150 foot pole in the very center of the round inner courtyard with a giant model of the first generation iPhone perched on top.
And every year at the the summer solstice, mirrors precisely angled around the roof top can angle the sun towards the iPhone idol and it will shine in brilliance at 12 noon while all the Apple employees get down on their knees and pray to it.

I don't know. Just an idea.

I had that discussion last month with two forum members who were saying "It's just another office building that's round" or "There are much more appealing architectures out their than this."

Some people are closed minded and glib, where they can't see the appreciation beyond a photo or aerial shot of Apple Park. To me, what a privilege to have a new building with new amenities to take advantage of. And it's an awesome looking building that will perhaps refresh the outlook of where Apple employee's work.

Exactly. It is - in pure purpose - just a building. Also though, there is something special about seeing a dream or a challenge on paper be manifested in reality.

As for Ford cars... love the 60's Mustangs and a GT40 (a huge dream to stick it to Ferrari manifested in reality) would leave me in a puddle even though it's "just a car". ;-)

The opening of the solar panel array at the end of the garage is likely deliberate, to allow for ladder access to the array for maintenance purposes.

As for construction workers eating at the company cafeteria, my guess is that they do not have the privilege to eat there.

Apple -- like other big corporations with employee dining facilities -- subsidizes part of the food costs as an employee benefit. The construction workers are not Apple employees, they work for contractors like Rudolph & Sletten, Holder Construction, Redwood Electric, etc.

Now if the various construction contractors wanted to negotiate a discounted rate to allow for their employees to have access to the cafeteria during construction, I'm sure it could be written into the contracts, but my guess is that the construction company management would say, "No thanks, our employees are responsible for their own meals. We'd rather get paid more than have you subsidize our employees' meals." The construction workers probably bring in their own sack lunches. Taco trucks, "roach coaches" and other mobile food vendors are probably allowed in designated areas of the active construction zones.

My guess also assumes that construction workers are not allowed to use any Apple employee facilities that are deemed complete. If the venue's construction in a certain area is deemed complete, then by definition there is no justifiable reason why a construction worker should be there. They are not entitled to use facilities or benefits that are intended for others. It's private property, not a public place.

Same with parking in the employee garage. There is likely a designated parking area for construction workers close to the active construction zone.

Did anyone ever say why they chose a giant circle? I can't tell if it is more efficient, less efficient or what, but I bet it was a pain in the butt to design and build. It certainly looks unique and impressive.

Anyone else bothered that there's no jogging track around the roof? Seems like a missed opportunity

Why would anyone want to jog on the roof of a building when there are nice paths on (eventually pretty) landscaped grounds?

So you can get a great view of the traffic on I-280?

It was an aesthetic decision by the late Steve Jobs.

There was a slight intentional misprint in the name - reporters got "Apple Park", but the true name is "Apple Ark". When the polar ice all melts and the oceans rise, we will witness its true purpose, just before we all drown.

I was one of those people. To me, both the above statements are true. To others, the Apple HQ is something special. That doesn't make any party more right or wrong than the other. It just makes for differing opinions.

You seem to be confusing a closed mind with having a differing opinion. A closed mind refuses to accept any other position but their own. You see it as an awesome looking building, someone else might see it as an architecturally technical leap forward, and yes, someone might see it as just an office building. Those opinions could also contain varying degrees of agreement with other positions, i.e. it's an office building that happens to look good. Painting dissenting opinion with the broad brush of "closed mindedness" tends to devalue all of the opinions... including your own.

And the other one was me.

I thought you might drop by. Which also includes JustPerry as he indicated as well.

I see what your saying and personally I don't share your view points for reasons, likely which I Will incidentally rehash.

I still stand behind my opinion on your glib view points, mainly being your opinion matters and isn't necessarily out of context, but you see it just as an "Office building." I like to think that I've traveled quite a bit outside of the major city that I live in and I don't view the new Apple Park just as a round building. I see it more as a unique structure that's going to encompass many different facets that no picture can elaborate. You're judging your viewpoint based off "A round photo."

If you also recall and my memory serves accurately, you also were posting pictures of other worldwide structures across the board, from the Dog dish and structures in Abu Dahbi. To me, those aren't relevant to what we see here. Sure....those are amazing looking architect pieces, but in comparison to other mundane office buildings most who work in, buildings like the ones you posted are few and far between and Don't appear practical most see or occupy every day. There has to be a sense of realism, and most to see a building like that, are going to show some type a fascination. Yes, I understand it's a generalization, but it's a fair generalization.

JustPerry also posted some picture of a grandiose office building that most will never see or be in their lifetime in that previous article I commented on.

Anyways, I I do understand what you're saying, it's just a matter of I don't share your opinions.

And.... I also like to think that I look at viewpoints and ideals different than everybody. If you recall again, I also took fascination with the newest and latest generation store of Best Buy. I take a different look at life, then others do. And maybe that's part of the reason how I see things, that's what's makes me unique from others.

And (Off-Topic)....in Post #10, you provided an example of a car that you own with a 69Mustang. Speaking of someone with a good memory, if I also recall based on these forums, you also mentioned that car examples are overly used on Macrumors for practical purposes. Does that include your car example? :D

For what it's worth, having the opinion that car examples are overused (an opinion I share) does not mean that they should not be used at all, merely that they are, well, overused. Some folks, when asked about the nature of square roots, or the physics of black holes, will struggle to find a way to insert a car analogy into their explanation. What 69Mustang was doing, on the other hand, was quite reasonably using his car as an example of something for which he has a particular appreciation. It could just as well have been his coffeemaker, if that is what he really likes, but he referenced his car because that answer was truthful and accurate (as far as I can tell). I'd call that a good use of a car example.

Off topic, yes, but I appreciate a good discussion about logic. :)

Logic is good and underused on Macrumors, which I can appreciate your post.

I was just indicating previous quotes he has used saying "Please, no more car examples on macrumors. They're horrible examples." (If I quoted this correctly to the best of my ability) Which he, may find his a good example in all likeliness.

If the example fits the topic and suffices as a direct relation to the point made, then I would agree with you.
