I have a 24" iMac in my office and want a way to play DVD's in my workroom. Since I have a 19" SONY monitor and an Apple USB keyboard and Kensington mouse in the closet I thought the way to go would be to buy the cheapest decent mini and a DVD player.

Any thought? Advise? :confused

I would go refurb. You save money over new and typically price competitive with used and you know it will be backed by Apple.

The other option is find a new base on sale. Like from B&H.

I forgot to add you could get new base for ~$565 or a refurb for ~$550. Keep it for 5 years and you are looking at just over $110/year. You could probably sell it when you want to upgrade to someone looking for a media server and lower your end cost.

As far as the DVD, just buy an external DVD drive.
