Indeed the interface of the desktop area looks better than in Windows 7. Microsoft decided to "kill" Aero.

But have you had the chance to try Windows 8 Consumer Preview and its Metro interface? It's awkward and I don't know how Microsoft intends to push it to desktop computers.

My only Win7 devices have been slow or old and I use the "classic" pre-XP look. It's not pretty, but it is functional. This doesn't look too bad. I'm mostly glad the versioning is simpler -- the kinds of things that are restricted on my win7 "starter" netbook install are fairly silly, and if I didn't need iTunes and Ubuntu didn't continue to have various nuisances (which are amazingly better in 12.04 than I've seen before), I'd probably rarely boot into win7.

Edit: after much complaining, I mostly have learned to like the ribbon.
