New Zealand 3G handset without contract

Does any who knows alot about iphone / Pwnage know if I buy an Iphone in New Zealand without contract I will be able to get it working in the uk?

Will it be locked to only using New Zealand sim cards? or are sim cards international? Will I be able to get it and use any sim card in the uk with it?

I have already downloaded Pwnage and got it going - but apparently it doesn't unlock the 3G yet...

Anyone with the knowledge about this, information would be appreciated

I heard that the unlocked iPhones only meant that they were only unlocked for that country. But someone said the other day this wasnt true and they were internationally unlocked.

No one has unlocked a iPhone 3G yet. 2.0.1 has been unlocked but only with a 2G iPhone.

Just found a site that explains thing well, it seems the New Zealand Handset is unlocked, and you can buy it on its own without a contract.

Luckily I know someone over there just now - so I'll be ordering one end of this week. I'll probably use Pwnage to activate it.

Worse case scenario is it is restricted to new zealand sim cards - but even then it won't be long until the Pwnage software allows 3G unlocking.

I'm caught between that and the NZ option.. but payg will be another 4 months wait, apparently coming out in uk December 8th

Did you activate the phone with Pwnage or in itune?

Did you have any problems with the sim card being limited to NZ numbers?

Jailbroken and unlocked are different things.

About icons.. the theme that I use is called Realized and you can use Winterboard to change it. You can change the icons too.

The NZ iPhone don't have Sim lock so I don't need to use any tools to activate/unlock it.

In the Settings Menu, you can see a list of countries that you can choose from so no limited to NZ numbers.
