I'm running a Dell D640 (2GB ram, 80GB hdd) that has to be connected to the wall outlet for use due to a overheated motherboard, but hey, it's still ticking...

I'm currently in the hunt for a good priced MBA. Preferably 8gb memory. Anyone know when or if there will be any specials for the holidays? Maybe a free gift card, upgrades, rebates, etc?

Also, with me wanting a 8gb, will I miss anything special if I stick with the i5 compared to the 7? I don't plan on doing any hardcore video/photo editing. This machine will be mostly used for homework, bills, music/movies. I just want a laptop that I won't have to worry about upgrading in the near future...as you can see, I don't have any troubles running a laptop into the ground before purchasing a new one :p.

Thanks for all the help!

You can look into Apple Refurb store.

Like new, same warranty as new. At a discount.

Bump. Would like to know about the i5 and i7...

almost people go with i7 when they need a photo/music editing.
and i7 series have 2 class : i7 dual core and i7 quad-core (MBP 15 series).

from your needs, i think core i7 is enough (costume to order/CTO) from apple store.

That's it though, I won't be doing any editing at all. So maybe i5?

Bestbuy has promotion on and off. Just have to check regularly. Or try bandhphotography you might not need to pay taxes depending on where you live.

There is no bargain Macbooks, all you can hope for is a little break. Keep looking at Best Buys Ads.

Keep your eyes on Slickdeals, stuff pops up sometimes. I wouldn't wait for it though, maybe just grab an open box from Best Buy or refurb from Apple

The i7 is about 20% faster than the i5
