Just setting up my ATV and I want a digital audio output to run from the ATV into my hifi in the next room. I also want to run a similar output from the TV.

The problem is that the ATV and the TV have only digital optical outputs (and no coax outputs) but my DAC on the hifi has only one optical input (but several coax inputs). Which of the following would be better?

a) run two Toslink cables into a Toslink switch

b) run one Toslink cable and use a Toslink/coax converter for the other connection and run the main connection as a coax. (Two options here: long coax short toslink or short coax long toslink)

From the point of view of the switching, b) would be preferable as I could then just use the switch on the DAC when switching between TV and ATV. But is there likely to be an appreciable difference in sound quality between these options or does it not make a lot of difference?
