I've just received a 19" display and I'm trying to figure out how to attach it to my 13" MBP (mid-2012).
The display (1280x1024 native resolution) has DVI-A, DVI-D and D-sub connectors (I believe the latter is the analog "VGA" standard if I'm not mistaken).

I've never used Thunderbolt before, but according to the (rather limited) documentation I need to buy a Displayport-DVI adapter for my setup (which are both digital I believe, so I won't get any signal loss as I would in a digital/analog conversion process).

Apple's offering is quite costly, and I assume there's plenty of similar devices to choose from on eBay, Amazon or whatever. Does it make any difference which adapter to get?

Not really, this one should work just fine: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matter...055500&sr=8-2&keywords=minidisplayport+to+dvi or this one: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matter...port to dvi&qid=1497055500&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1

Thanks.
So there aren't different variations or such an adapter: all I need to look for is a "Mini Displayport to DVI adapter"?
