Newbie, do I understand the iphone4 correctly. I'm thinking of upgrading from my Cingular (now ATT) Razr to the new iphone4. My most important reason for jail breaking is tethering--it is essential that I be able to tether.

My task: I have (1) an ancient Cingular Razr (now ATT) that I have been using for years; (2) a 3G aircard/Globetrotter (ATT) that I have had for about 8 months; (3) an ancient Palm Pilot Tungsten calendar (non-phone) that I have been using for years; (4) a wand document scanning device; and was thinking of buying (5) a Tom Tom GPS device. I am looking to upgrade and replace all of these FIVE instruments with a new iphone4 that I intend to buy as soon as I can. So I need some very basic clarity from the knowledgeable contributors on this forum
Are these statements correct-- yes/no ?

Nomenclature:
1. The new Apple/ATT iphone model is called the iphone4 ?
2. It will come with the new operating system called iOS4 ?
3. There is a new wifi system by Sprint called 4G ?
4. The nomenclature of the iphone4 does NOT mean that it is a 4G wifi system ?

Jailbreaking:
5. There is not yet a jailbreak for the iphone4 / iOS4 ?
6. ATT does not offer tethering in any of its plans for the iphone4 ?
7. To tether this phone, one needs to jailbreak it ?
8. I need to wait a while for a jail break hack to come out before I buy the iphone4 ?

Any additional info you can offer would be much appreciated. Thanks for your patience.
 
1. Yep. Apple iPhone. AT&T has nothing to do with it. And why the lack of ampersand?
2. Yep.
3. No. 4G is a generic term. Sprint chose WiMAX, everyone else chose LTE.
4. 4th generation. Not 4G. There is no LTE or WiMAX circuitry in it. No one has a 4G network, anyway.
5. There is indeed an exploit for 4.0. As for the new iPhone, no one has it.
6. Not yet? They're supposed to.
7. For now.
8. No, you can buy the phone anytime you want. The jailbreak obviously won't be immediate.

AT&T will be taking preorders for the iPhone4 on June 17th.
