Newbie Help - Activation?

Hi,

Just got my nice shiny 16GB iPhone 3G, I have inserted the SIM card and now it wants me to plug into itunes.

My question is:
I am at work at the moment, so I do not have my library, however my laptop does have itunes.

Should i plug in for the first time when i get home (into my mac), or can i do whatever activation needs to be done from my Xp Laptop?

Thanks for your help and sorry if it is a dumb question.
