Hey guys, this is my first thread and I hope it is in the right discussion board. I ran a search on "playing .sub files" and came up with nothing so I was hoping someone could lend me a hand.

I have this .sub media file with a VLC icon. This is the error message I get when trying to use the recommended application :

ffmpeg: av_find_stream_info failed
ps: cannot peek
main: no suitable demux module for `/:///Volumes/LaCie/Resident Evil 1 - Director's Cut [2002]/Resident Evil I (director's cut) .sub'

I don't know if that's gibberish or what but there it is. When I try opening it with quicktime it says that it is not a video file. Now, it's possible that the file is curropt, however, I think it's just that I can't figure out how to play .sub files. Any help wiould be greatly appreciated.

I'm guessing that is a file with subtitle data in it. It's not a video file by itself. Sounds like from your accent though, that you should be out looking for booty instead of pirating.... arrrrg.
