Just bought a late-2008 aluminum MacBook to act as an educational tool to learn OSX before I plop down the coin for a MBP.

I have two totally newbie questions...please bear with me.

1. The previous owner didn't wipe the computer. I want to create a new admin account for me with new password, etc. How do I do that?

2. I have no restore discs. Can I still wipe the machine?

3. I want to upgrade to Mountain Lion, since I believe this machine supports it. How do I obtain & load the OS?

Thank you for your patience. I feel like I'm learning a new language! :)

First of all welcome to Mac!

1. Click on the :apple: menu and click "system preferences". Then click "users and groups" then click the lock button, and then the plus button. Add your new user. Then you can log out and log in as your new user.

2. If your Mac runs OS X Lion you can boot into recovery (reboot and hold the option key and select recovery) and wipe and reinstall. If not you will need the Snow Leopard disk.

3. If your Mac runs OS X Snow Leopard or later, you can go to the Mac App Store and buy mountain Lion. If it doesn't run Snow Leopard, you will have to buy the Snow Leopard disk from the apple online store.
