Newbie, Need help with Iphone and Itunes Please

Hi All.
I'm not a Mac user, but a windows user.
Just bought an iphone frone o2 shop. Just want to get it jailbreaked to run my o2 payg sim card.
Running firmware 1.1.2, 04.02.13_G. I downloaded Itunes 7.4.2 as this was what I had read to work. It wouldn't let me get very far. Kept saying I needed 7.5 to activate my iphone, so downloaded itunes 7.5, Now it says"Let's activate", this is where I need help to get itunes to activate my iphones. It's asking for my phone number to activate. I have looked around on here and have been unable to find any info at this stage. Please can someone tell me how I can get my iphone activated with itunes? I'd be very gratefull of any help received.

its gonna involve a few more steps that just plugging your number into iTunes if you want to use a PAYG sim.
