Hi all,
I am sorta of new at this JB stuff. I have an iPhone4 firmware 4.2.1 which I have JBed. My Question is, how to I upgrade to firmware 4.3.2 and JB without loosing all my stuff? When I say stuff, I mean I have plenty of apps inside of the folders that use the Infinifolder app that allows for unlimited apps within. I don't want to have to reorganize everything again which takes hours to do for me.
Can anyone explain if there is a way to do this or direct me to a site?

Thanks in advance,
Billy:cool:

1. Upgrade like normal.
2. Download Redsn0w and the IPSW for iOS 4.3.2. If your IPSW is downloaded as a ZIP, rename the file extension to IPSW.
3. Follow onscreen instructions for jailbreaking, all the way down to the letter.
4. Don't be stupid and keep the iPhone plugged in at all times during the jailbreak process.

You will not lose any data unless your iPhone gets seriously screwed, which is very highly unlikely.

So when you say upgrade like normal you mean through iTunes? If so won't that unJB it?

Thanks

Sorry, didn't read that you were jailbroken on 4.2.1.
You have two choices: PkgBackup or AptBackup. AFAIK PkgBackup seems to be buggier than AptBackup, also costs money. AptBackup is free.

Before updating through iTunes, download either through Cydia. Backup following the instructions (AptBackup is K.I.S.S. - Keep It Simple Stupid - one button backup; PkgBackup is a bit more complicated).

Then, sync with iTunes. VERY IMPORTANT.
After you have synced, then you can update. After updating through iTunes you will lose your jailbreak, so rejailbreak after updating. After jailbreaking with Redsn0w, redownload PkgBackup or AptBackup and restore your JB backup.

PkgBackup uses a Dropbox or something; not quite sure. It saves all of your settings as well as your packages. AptBackup simply makes a list of downloaded packages and sources, and redownloads them when you press "Restore".

PkgBackup - Costs money, 90% reliable, saves settings.
AptBackup - Free, 100% reliable, doesn't save settings.

Ok now I have problems
I downloaded AptBackup and backuped my cydia apps. I plugged into itunes and synced and then I clicked on update. After that was over I got an error telling me to restore my iphone. I went through the process of restoreing and I get this window which showed this:

"The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored an unknown error occurred (1013)"
I clicked OK and I get this window:
iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.

I have gone through this twice with the same results. My iphone screen shows the USB plug with the up arrow pointing to the iTunes symbol.

What do I do?
Please help!!!

You restored your phone? YOU HAVE A BACKUP RIGHT?
Open up TinyUmbrella and kick it out of Recovery. Close it.
Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc. Delete "hosts.tinyumbrella". Open the file named "Hosts" with Notepad. Delete the last 2 lines, which should have something like gs.apple.com. Save with Ctrl-S, don't save as a .txt file.
Try updating again.

OK on the host file i delete the last two lines which are:

::1 localhost
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

But is will not let me save the file afterwards

Make sure you're logged onto an admin account.

Then stop trolling in the jailbreak forums.

Right Click Notepad - then select open as administrator.
Then navigate to the file, open, edit and finally save.

everytime i go to TinyUmbrella and kick it out of Recovery mode the phone restarts and goes back and reopens iTunes and tells me again

iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.

Right Click Notepad - then select open as administrator.
Then navigate to the file, open, edit and finally save.

That works too.

So, here's the complete rundown:
1. Open TinyUmbrella
2. Select your device and press Exit Recovery
3. Close TinyUmbrella
4. Open hosts file as admin
5. Fix the hosts file by deleting gs.apple.com
6. Save hosts file
7. Update with Apple. If this isn't possible, then restore & update.
8. When update is finished, jailbreak using Redsn0w.
9. If restored, then jailbreak using Redsn0w first, then set up from backup.
10. Use AptBackup to get everything back.

First, did you sync before you attempted to update?
If you did sync, go ahead and restore. If you didn't, sorry but I think all of your JB data is gone.
Second, what did you do?

i did sync and that is what I have been doing restore and update. I have saved the file now and trying to do it again. Just waiting to see what happens

ok got the message that it restored to factory settings now just waiting for it to reboot.
