Right now I just back up my drive by using SilverKeeper which copies all the folders to an EHD. I'm wonderig what's the advantage to making a disk image of the drive and backing up the image (if there is one). Also, when should I make a Disk image insted of say, a ZIP file?

thanks guys

I think the advantage of making a Disk image is that it does compress the data that can be compressed. The idea of actually backing up a disk image seems a bit pointless to me though. Overall I would say a disk image is not going to be better than zipping a file unless you want a particular file to be uncompressed and presented as an actual disk in a drive (like the DMG's you download). I would stick to ZIPs.
