Newbie question: The Apple Store can renew my AT&T Contract right?

I'm going in line to get an iPhone 4 tomorrow. I'm eligible for an upgrade from AT&T so I can get the subsidized pricing for the phone.....I can do this at the Apple Store correct? Do I have to do anything on the AT&T website with my account, or apple employess have access to AT&T account information?
