Newbie- Windows on Mac questions (maybe silly ones)

Hi,
I bought an 21.5 inch, 8GB, iMac 4 months back, was super excited, thought installing windows would be easy- but 4 months of trying weekends, partitioning etc, I still have not been able to install windows. Following are my questions:

1. Is there any way to install Windows XP Dell OEM with SP2 on Bootcamp/Parrallels?
2. If I purchase a new download upgrade version of Windows 7 (upgrade from my Dell XP OEM), can I install that on Bootcamp/Parrallels?

Obviously I am trying to save money here, I desperately need Windows, I am an architect and the software I have is Windows based.

OEM and upgrade discs are not recommended. You can read all about Windows on a Mac at Apple's support site.

Yes it will install fine, as far as OEM it should't really give you a big problems as you have XP SP2 and will be updating to Windows 7. All in all you should be fine.
