It's not like the MBA screen is any worse, lol. I wouldn't worry. It still have better form-factor.

Its a $500 difference in price to add 1 lb of weight and 1/4 inch of thickness. I wanted a 13" laptop and at that time the MBA was the only option.

Kind of a big deal for those looking for the best bang for the buck these days.

From the front page of MacRumors right now :

"I personally see a difference in person when I use them both, but others may not. The newer one seems to have much deeper blacks and better contrast. I'm not sure its as good as the screens in the uMBP's but IMHO its definately a "step-up" from the original uMB screens."

------

Any upgrade where OTHERS MAY NOT see it shouldn't be too exciting....

This will turn into a whole "i bet you have lines but can't see it' scenario. Some people will say their new screens have better contrast etc - some will say there is no difference. Then everyone can fight about it.

You pay for the -1.5 pounds now I guess.

You paid for what Apple calls their "truly portable" notebook. The weight, battery, form factor. The screen being better is just gravy.

I used to have a MacBook Air rev A, now a unibody Pro (and lots of past Apple notebooks). Went to an Apple store on the way home and found one of the MacBooks with the new screen. It was very easy to pick it out from the other MacBooks with the older screen. Deeper blacks, much less washed out than the older screens. Looks to be to about on par with the Air and Pro. I wouldn't chose an Air or Pro now based on screen alone.

If this is true, I see a unibody MBP hitting the marketplace in my future.;)

Just got a new Macbook with screen 9CA8 - It's virtually identical to the Air display - color depth appears the same, the only I'm not sure of is brightness, it appears the same to be but it's a bright sunny day here - the MBA was blindingly bright in low light situations.

I'd guess that this is the same now - will check later.
