Are there any experts out there (who has played with both devices extensively) who are willing to do a DETAILED compare and contrast between the two devices?

Things like pricing, capacitity, dimensions, and obvious differences (like calling) are NOT the focus of this thread

I am interested in similarities and differences in FEATURES & FUNCTIONALITIES.....

i.e. things like these:
What features do they both have?
iphone can do XXX but ipod touch cannot (vice versa).

a table format displaying the comparisions would be great guys~ rather than one sentence postings outlining one difference.....make it difficult to summarize after a while....'

thanx~

iPod touch: get the back scratched and scuffed just by looking at it
white iPhone: not the above

That's about it.

The iPhone is a phone, has a GPS and a better battery. If you need a phone get an iPhone. If you need an iPod get and iPod touch.

PS: every capital letter in the thread topic, except the first N isn't the right case.

It should read: Newest iPod touch vs. newest iPhone.

They are pretty much the same.

besides the fact that the Iphone is, well a phone.

oh and GPS.

almost same but iPhone obviously can access data anywhere whereas you need to be in a hotspot for the iPod touch.

Wow~ thank you all for your posts~

what about the "cloud" thing on itunes, and all those hundreds of new games that just debuted in the newest keynote speech, are all of these available to both devices?

as wll, can both of them view microsoft office and pdf files?

The white phone just cracks for no apparent reason. You don't even have to look at it.

iPod Touch:
feels much thinner and lighter
new Apple in-ear headphones volume control compatibility (new)
Nike+ compatibility (new)
32GB option
audio jack on the bottom
includes earbuds
metal back

iPhone 3G:
GSM/3G cell phone + cellular data
built-in microphone
GPS
2MPixel camera
bigger battery (longer play time in airplane mode)
audio jack on the top
includes earbuds with mic and button
compatible with Bluetooth handsfree devices
plastic back

Both:
Cocoa touch
lots of apps, App store, SDK
iPod media player, iTunes, iTunes store
wifi
mobileme compatible
capable of using an external mic (new on new Touch)

.

I would be willing to bet that the black ones cracked as well. It was just harder to see the cracks because of the color.

Agreed, but what you don't see can't hurt you. Isn't that the argument all the owners of white iPhones have been saying in regards to scratches? For the record, my black iPhone has been naked since launch day, and the scratches on the chrome bezel and apple logo are much more noticeable than on its sexy back.
