News app stuck on “Preparing your News” after turning on “Restrict Stories in Today” on iPhone

Anyone else had this problem?

I turned on “Restrict Stories in Today” on my iPhone and now the Watch app just says “Preparing your News” and it’s said that all day.

I’ve rebooted both my Apple Watch and iPhone. Running the latest iOS and watchOS.

This also seemed to break the News widget on my iPhone. It just says “Read stories in Apple News” and hasn’t updated all day either.
 
Go into the News settings I. Your phone and disable “Show Story Previews”. This should allow the watch to display News stories.
 
I turned “Show Story Previews” back on and now several days later my Apple Watch and the widget are displaying the “For You” news stories. Finally! What took it so long!? lol

Is the widget still working for you? Mine hasn’t worked for months. I have Restrict Stories on and the widget just says “Read stories in Apple News”
 
I also had this problem! Turned on restrict stories because it kept suggesting The Sun here in the UK even though I have it blocked as a news source. I’d love it if they fixed it so I could get Today stories back.
 
It's still happening on iOS 14 for me. Even widgets for specific topics get messed up. What's with this! lol

I turned on the regular settings again so I'll just deal with it for now.
