News Regarding O2/CPW/AS in the UK

Just had a call to three different Apple stores, including the one I was going to go to tomorrow.

I am a new O2 customer, but I am almost 100% sure that the "Please go to an O2/CPW store" statement is representative of the fact that you cannot upgrade at ASs because there will be no iphone 3g tomorrow at ASs. Two of the locations confirmed this fact (and have even said nothing has been announced and they have not recieved any stock yet) and the third said it was too ambiguous to tell.

I will be making a round trip tomorrow. Dash to my local O2 store at 7:30, see if there's a line, if not then I will stay there, if so then I will get my dad to drive me past 100mph to Brent Cross shopping centre where there's a CPW, an O2 AND an apple store.
 
My local Apple Store has 'em according to an employee friend of mine. But that isnt a guarantee they will be for sale of course.

Im starting to smell a glitch :)
 
My local O2 store are opening at 9.00 so I asked CPW if they will be opening sooner and they are opening at 07:02. I asked if they will have the 16gb in stock and they told me that the units they are getting are already reserved. If I knew they were able to accept reservations I would have reserved weeks ago, although they did say I can order one and will have it by monday (although I think this timescale is far too optimistic).
 
I called Meadowhall which has 02, carphone warehouse and apple stores and they said apple store will be getting around double that of the others!
 
My local o2 store manager has just told me they have 5 iphones in stock...5!

CPW wouldn't give me a figure, but told me to "get there VERY, VERY early".

What is this reservation balls? :mad: I didn't think they were allowed to reserve individual handsets...Isn't it first come, first serve?

That's what most of us accepted as the rule, but it seems that the rules are being broken all over the place. I know of two stores that have allowed reservations.

Too late for me, however. :(

reserved means: "I'd like one - and I have put another one through for my mate too... and the new shop girl who joined the staff yesterday has here eye on the third, and we opened one and dropped it, and the 5th is in the window. - can I show you a Nokia N95 we have 64 of them on offer?"

i thought the first come first served was only from O2? i guess CPW can operate however it likes? i reserved mine and was told they have it covered! :cool:
 
My friend works at a CPW store 2nd largest in the country Manchester
They have just taken 50 iphones in stock...

He was telling me all the staff are fighting amongst themselves to reserve for friends and family... and the store manager said none can be reserved.

Good. Employees will get a discount anyway. They should wait their turn.

interesting, sounds like we should all just forget this nonsense for a couple of weeks and come back when the fuss has died down.

Which branch is that as a matter of interest?

wow 50...

i heard that the flagship CPW in london got (ie had in the store room now) around 300 16gigs and 150 8gigs. The manager claimed to me last night that he got the largest allocation in the UK outside of an Apple store (not sure how he would know that)?

Just spoken to the manager of the big CPW in Birmingham (England's 2nd City) and they have received around 250. Not sure how it's broken down between 8 and 16s though.
