Just a thought. Do you think the next iMac update will lose the 'i' and fall into line to be Mac - something? Mac Media maybe or do you think they will keep the iMac name?

its got the mac part, and every apple related thing on the planet has the prefix "i", so I can't see why they'd change the name any time soon.

It will be called the "FlyMac". It will get rid of the aluminium foot and simply float in mid-air.

Really!

Pro………………Consumer
MacBook Pro……MacBook
Mac Pro……………Mac

It looks like we're losing or "i" (or else they would have made it the iMacBook, right? :p )

I like the name DeskMac or Mactop (since they didn't use it for the macbook). Hehe.

iMac goes well though. It has the same white plastic look as the iPod, so yea.

I think that just "Mac" would confuse people. As said in an older thread,

Person 1: "I just bought a Mac today."
Person 2: "Cool, which one?"
Person 1: "A Mac."
Person 2: "What?!"

As long as there is an iPod there will be an iMac. They even have similar styling.

I bet if you asked an average consumer to name an Apple computer model...iMac is the answer you would get 75% of the time. You don't throw that kind of brand recognition away unless your very foolish.

I suppose if they feel like they have to put Mac first in the brand name they could name it MacPod :) but I like iMac WAY better!

Apple wouldn't just call it Mac though because of the distinction between models. People say "i'm thinking about getting a Mac" and then the person helping them would then have to say "now do you really mean a "Mac" or just an Apple machine." Too much confusion. The change was fine for the portables to because it gave all Apple notebooks the "MacBook" th ing then Pro or regular for distinction. The desktops don't need that connection. iMac is here to stay :)
