And, I think that the next gen iPad may come out in January; however, that is looking unlikely, with the lack of "solid" evidence / leaks. So, I think we'll see it in April. Or, September, with the iPods and to keep in line with the possible iOS update time frame.
 
I would like to think Apple wouldn't risk the backlash or the alienation of customers.

If they introduced a new iPad to the market in January, just after hyping and selling a ton of 1st. Gen iPads over Christmas, all the new giftees would be feeling gyped, and rightfully so, imho.

They do it nearly every year with the iMac and MacBooks.
