I cannot believe it, will it be true?
DIMENSIONS :
- Samsung Note 3 (151,2mm x 79,2mm)
- Apple 6 5,5" (157,0mm x 81,0mm)
IT WOULD BE AN AWFULLY LARGE DEVICE !!
Up to now it's not more than a simple rumor but in case it is so...Can anybody explain to
me why Apple is going to manufacture a bigger sized phablet than Samsung ?

I just want to cry...

Well...For Note 3 you can find specifications everywhere: 151,2 x 79,2, they are very well known.
For Apple 5'5" I'm taking the rumor (just rumors) here in Macrumors :

While there have been numerous renderings, cases, and physical mockups of the rumored 4.7-inch iPhone 6 in recent weeks, there has been considerably less attention paid to the even larger 5.5-inch model, which is said to be released several months after the 4.7-inch version.

New photos showing what appears to be simple cases for both the 5.5-inch and 4.7-inch iPhone 6 models, paired with physical mockups, have been shared by Nowhereelse.fr [Google Translate]. The images show the larger 5.5-inch "iPhone Air" along with the 4.7-inch version, providing a scale comparison and approximate dimensions for both handsets.

The larger case obtained by Nowhereelse.fr is identified as being for the "iPhone 6s" and reportedly measures 157 mm long, 81 mm wide and 7 mm thick. This model is slightly larger than the 4.7-inch model, which measures 138x67 mm and is 7.0 mm thick. The dimensions for both of these cases closely match design drawings published by MacFan earlier this year, which are the foundation for most recent renderings and mockups.

Because of the TouchID/Home button, and the bezel at the top of the screen that is sized the same as that at the bottom.

If Apple sticks with the ridiculous and ugly large bezels like previous iPhone's, then the 5.5" iPhone 6 will be the same size as a 8" tablet

I would think Apple is smart enough to make a 5.5" screen phone, like that of the LG G3 with very thin / small bezels, to keep the overall footprint to a minimum.

Why is this such a big deal? If the device is too big, don't buy one.

Because you really want a 5.5" iPhone but then it comes out having an unreasonably large chassis for the screen? That would suck. I'd be disappointed as hell because a smaller screen just isn't an option for me.

It's interesting though, I can't see Apple coming out with a chassis that makes the phone too chunky for comfortable use, but at the same time it will have to be too big if they stick to their current design. Maybe the 4.7 format is as big as that design can go, and the 5.5" version comes with a more iPad-like design?

i cant imagine them bailing on touchid though, maybe if they redesign the home button

They could cut down on the bezels without ditching TouchID - I think the sensors at the top are the bigger issue. Though obviously other OEMs are able to do it.

Here's probably the best concept I've seen - its of a 5" iPhone, but the design language could work for the 4.7" or 5.5"

It's unclear if those measurements are for the iphone or for the case itself. If the iphone ends up being larger than the Note 3 that would be a disaster IMO, way too large for a smaller screen. Looking at my Note 3 I can't see how Apple couldn't fit a 5.5" screen and the apple button in the same dimensions, although the bezels would probably be larger.

I think the fact that the physical button needs to be round is what would make it chunky. I mean, the note 3 has a home button yet slimish bezels.

Edit: I've looked at the phonearena concepet and it an htc one clone?

If it's bigger than my Note I think I'll pass. I can imagine then that the bezels will be super sized with the fat meaty home button. Maybe it won't look so bad because of how slim it's reportedly supposed to be but I doubt it.

Apple could surely play their way out of the contest if they don't start maximizing their screen real estate. That 80s chin & bezel won't fly on the new big screened devices.

That's my feelings too. If they take a 4.7 inch screen and use the same bezels....it will be almost the same size as say the S5 or M8 now. Even though those phones have bigger screens.

Note that the measurements linked in the OP are for the case. It looks like it would have a material thickness of at least 1 mm.

I've done some comparisons with my 4S and Note 2, which suggest that the 5.5" iPhone 6 will have the same side bezel width as the 4.7" model (same as the 5s). So, the width seems totally acceptable to me. It is narrower than my Note 2, which I already find has an acceptable width for a 5.5" phone, and most likely narrower than the Note 3 as well.

Continuing the comparisons, the 5.5" model seems to be 3.8 mm taller than the Note 3. That's not enough to be a dealbreaker for me. I'll take into account that both iPhone 6 models are said to be 7 mm thick - 1.3 mm thinner than the Note 3 and 0.6 mm thinner than the 5s. This will add to the overall feel of size, even though that variable is being underestimated right now.

Additionally, let's remember how rounded the sides of the iPhone 6 dummys are. Meaning that the phone won't actually feel as wide or tall as if those measurements had been of a device with squared edges, like the Note 3.

Regarding the weight - phablets see more prolonged use for media consumption etc., so a lighter 5.5" phone is nothing to spit at. I was watching the WC games for 2 hours+ last night on my Note 2 and I did find myself wishing that the device was lighter. (I've posted this part in several threads today, sorry if I'm repeating myself :D)

Ergo - do as you like but I'm not getting my knickers in a twist over the size of this thing. I feel more calm after doing some further research since posting what I said a few posts up. And, bottom line - I find it utterly unbelieveable that Apple, after years of refusing a substantial size increase, when they finally cave in and make one, would make the damn thing too large to handle. It just doesn't make sense.

I hope they make a "tall" phone similar to the 5s, it would be easier to hold one handed. Part of the issue here is not only the round button, but the idiotic belief that the top bezel has to match the bottom bezel. Would anyone seriously be offended if the top bezel was slimmer than the bottom bezel?

Also are there any rumors floating around to how thick it will be?

I felt the same but then I saw some renderings (I forget where, sorry!) where the top bezel was slimmer, and actually it didn't look very good at all.

Yeah, 7 mm - 0.6 mm thinner than the 5s. (My bad, that rumor info is not linked in the OP but in the third post down.)

You can see the thickness compared to the 5s here (both iPhone 6 models are said to have the same thickness): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lPW1lTO4OI#t=149

Very nice, ty.

What weird creatures we are. When the 4 came out I griped that the curved plastic backing on the 3g was better. When the 5 came out I lamented the loss of the glass backing of the 4. And now looking at the 6 I think I'm going to miss the squared off look of the 5, but it is reminiscent of the 3g which I originally preferred.

If they place the power button on the side I guess they can fix the top bezel but the problem now is Touch ID.

Maybe they can make it smaller ? Or make it like a trackpad and get rid of the mechanical aspect.

I like the size of the Nokia Lumia Icon, though the 1520 looks nice which is a larger phone - a true phablet.

I'll have to wait and see how large the iPhone is and how it works with iOS8 before passing judgement.

If it's true they call it the iPad Mini-Me Phone :D

Seeing the newly printed pictures of the ip6 5.5" I'm quite disappointed in the bezels. I was expecting to be disappointed in the top/bottom bezels, but the side ones are much thicker than I would have thought a flagship phone in 2014 would be. If the rumors of a wraparound screen on the Note 4 are true I'm going to have a very hard decision.
