iPod Next iPod classic Model?

Anybody have any solid information on when the next change to the iPod classic will occur? I am trying to decide between getting the 120GB one now or waiting for a 250GB, 500GB, etc to come out. Anybody have a clue when that might happen?

A 240GB is possible now, but the iPod classic will be discontinued before a 500 exists.

Hmm. By "possible" do you mean "available" or "feasible"?

There will be no Classic updates until next year (September), at which point the Classic (or at least the Classic as we know it) may well be replaced with the iPod Touch and Nano altogether.

If you want more than 120gb you can buy the old 160gb model. Basically there used to be a 80gb and a 160gb. The 160gb didn't sell well (and was thicker) so they replaced both with a 120gb model. I'm not sure that Apple is really going to devote that much attention to the Classic over the coming years; actually, I'm with Beric, in that I fel the classic may well be discontinued as the capacity of the touch increases and as SSD drive technology improves. This would be a pity, as I, for one, love the classic, it's superb battery and excellnet capacity. Re the actual question, I don't expect to see much, if anything, over the next while.

If you're willing to rip CD's with 256 kbps variable bit rate AAC encoding, I'd go with the new "6.5G" 120 GB classic (you can cram in a lot of music at this level of encoding). I've played with one and it works very well indeed; it appears they cleared up some of the stuttering problems that plagued the 6G classic, especially the 160 GB model.

I hope not. I love my video- the shape, size, touch wheel. I far prefer it to my Touch for music (though gaming, PDA functions, and internet on my touch are a dream).
